Background of the Study: Workplace-related injuries among healthcare workers are a significant concern globally, with healthcare professionals exposed to various risks, including needlestick injuries, musculoskeletal disorders, and exposure to infectious diseases (Oshikoya et al., 2023). In Kaduna State hospitals, healthcare workers often face these risks due to the nature of their work, which involves providing care to patients with infectious diseases, lifting and moving patients, and using sharp instruments. Occupational health nurses (OHNs) play a critical role in mitigating these risks by implementing health and safety protocols, providing education and training, and offering support for injury prevention and management.
Studies have shown that occupational health nurses are instrumental in reducing workplace injuries by identifying potential hazards, promoting safety practices, and providing timely interventions (Makarawo et al., 2024). However, in many Nigerian hospitals, including those in Kaduna State, the role of OHNs in preventing workplace-related injuries has not been extensively studied. This research aims to assess the impact of occupational health nurses on reducing workplace-related injuries among healthcare workers in Kaduna State hospitals.
Statement of the Problem: Healthcare workers in Kaduna State hospitals are at risk of various workplace-related injuries, which not only affect their health but also impact the overall quality of patient care. While occupational health nurses are expected to play a role in minimizing these risks, the effectiveness of their interventions has not been adequately evaluated. This study seeks to investigate the role of OHNs in reducing workplace-related injuries in Kaduna State hospitals, exploring the strategies they use and their impact on healthcare workers' safety.

Scope and Limitations of the Study: This study will focus on the role of occupational health nurses in reducing workplace-related injuries among healthcare workers in Kaduna State hospitals. Limitations may include variations in occupational health nurse training and program implementation across different hospitals, and potential challenges in collecting data from workers due to concerns about confidentiality and fear of reprisals.
